The company, based in Spain, owns and manages the Deportivo de la Coruña, a Spanish professional football club founded in 1906. The company was incorporated in 1992 and is based in A Coruna. Deportivo de la Coruña's home stadium in A Coruña is called Estadio Municipal de Riazor and holds approximately 34,600 spectators. Deportivo has its origins in 1904 when José María Abalo and his group of friends formed a football team called Coruna and began practicing in the Sala Calvet gymnasium. Deportivo continued to play in various football matches in Galicia and outside for two decades till 1928, when the Spanish league was formed. However, Deportivo failed to achieve qualification for the Primera División in Liga de Fútbol Profesional, and so began playing in the Segunda División. Between 1993 and 2004, Deportivo finished in the top three on ten occasions, a better record than either the more prestigious clubs Real Madrid or FC Barcelona, and in 2000, under Javier Irureta, Deportivo became the ninth team to be crowned champions Real Club Deportivo de La Coruña's first League title of its history was obtained in the season of 1999-2000 through the Champions League nights at Riazor stadium.
